Women Support Gale Norton

Immediate Action Needed: Confirmation hearing begins Thursday, January 18th.

Environmentalists are working overtime to derail the confirmation of President Elect Bush’s selection for Interior Secretary, Gale Norton mainly because of her state’s rights beliefs and her strong support of property rights and local control.

We need you to contact your Senators and members of the Energy Committee immediately to support Norton’s confirmation.  Women in the Natural Resource industries are also encouraged to emphasize the importance of nominating the first woman to the cabinet seat.

Background:   Mrs. Gale Norton is eminently qualified for the position of Interior Secretary.  Her considerable experience includes having served as Associate Solicitor for the Department of Interior from 1985-87.  She was the first woman ever elected as Attorney General for the state of Colorado.  She worked for the Mountain States Legal Foundation, an organization known for championing the rights of small landowners and challenging federal actions.

She favors free-market and local control to solve environmental concerns and believes government should compensate property owners when environmental regulations prevent them from using their property.

Women Support Norton:  Mrs. Norton enjoys the support of women throughout the west and rural communities.  Past Texas CattleWomen President, Sharon Spenrath says:  “We are women who are not only cattlewomen, we are foremost, women who live the issues.  We are direct targets of restrictive federal regulations and we are confident that Gale Norton would fairly consider the rights of property owners in environmental issues.”

“Gail Norton is knowledgeable, right, just and fair.  She will be an excellent Secretary and I am very proud she will be America’s first woman Secretary of Interior.” Former Congressman Helen Chenoweth-Hage.

Immediate Action Needed:  Call or fax your Senators and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee asking them to vote for Mrs. Norton’s confirmation as Interior Secretary.
