Federal Plan to Control the Northeast Resurfaces

The Northern Forest Stewardship Act , HR 971, S 546, has been resurrected by Vermont Sen. Leahy. The plan covers 26 Million Acres stretching from the northern border of Maine through New Hampshire, Vermont and into western New York. Last Thursday, only one witness was allowed to speak against the bill, however, written testimony can be submitted until July 31st. This bill is part of the environmentalist’s plan to "re-wild" America under The Wildlands Project. There are no provisions for opting out, no local referenda, nor any recourse for the landowners trapped within. We cannot allow this blatant attempt to destroy our right to local self-government go unanwered. Your comments and calls are crucial to killing this bill again. Babbitt Supports Kempthorne ESA Re-Authorization

On July 17, Secretary of Interior, Bruce Babbitt announced he and the Administration are ready to support Republican Senators Kempthorne and Chaffee’s re-authorization of the Endangered Species Act. However, Babbitt said, "this Administration is not coming to the table to weaken or dilute the provisions of the ESA. This [Act] is the keystone law that infuses all our environmental laws with a sense of direction and purpose." Not once did he mention protecting the private property rights of individual landowners, but then again, neither does Kempthorne’s proposed bill. Faxback doc. no. 150

"Rivers" Still Flowing

Clinton and his environmental friends are dead set on implementing the American Heritage Rivers Initiative despite the many efforts to stop the president and his scheme. A letter by Rep. Bob Schaffer is currently being circulated requesting an additional 60 day extension of the public comment period that ends August 20th. Helen Chenoweth’s bill H.R. 1842, is gaining strength. But, your best offense is with your local government. Clinton’s staff has said many times that they will not list a river if the local community does not want the designation. We need hundreds of local communities to oppose the president’s scheme. Act now by having your local elected officials pass a resolution in opposition to the American Heritage Rivers Initiative. Faxback doc. No. 153 is a sample resolution.

Clinton Launches Global Climate Treaty Campaign

Last Friday, trying to secure support for the Global Climate Treaty (LMNS 7/14) Clinton said: "It is no longer a theory, but now a fact that global warming is for real. We have evidence, we see the train coming, but most ordinary Americans in their day-to-day lives can’t hear the whistle blowing." The only train coming, Mr. president, is the one that is about to run over the American people. Faxback doc. no. 139

The Sudanese Ministry of Justice created the courts in May of this year and has already trained 46 judges in environmental issues. (Greenwire 7/16)
