Redevelopment Interests Using Anonymous Dollars to Defeat Eminent Domain Reform

Californians for Property Rights Protection

November 2007

Over the past two years, taxpayer financed organizations such as the League of California Cities have come up with a clever scheme by which they have contributed nearly 7 million anonymous dollars to defeat eminent domain reforms. What this means is that, unlike traditional political accounts, these organizations are using so-called "non-public funds" accounts which do not require them to disclose the source of their campaign dollars.

These "non-public funds" accounts represented over 4 million dollars, or nearly 40% of the total funds, raised to defeat Proposition 90. And already this year, these taxpayer financed organizaitons have raised over 2 million dollars through these anonymous "non-public funds" in opposition to the California Property Owners and Farmland Protection Act --- or over 80% of the money to defeat our measure is funded through this scheme! Clearly, the strength of our reform movement is leading them to resort to these tactics!
