First Week of I-69/TTC Public Hearings
Begin
CorridorWatch.org
February 4, 2008, TxDOT begins a series of public hearings
to receive comments on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for
I-69/Trans Texas Corridor.
[SCHEDULE]
Citizen participation in this hearing process, your
participation, is critical. Despite what some may tell you, you and your
comments really do count. Show up; get counted; sign-up to speak; bring your
friends, neighbors, and family; wear a CorridorWatch NO TTC lapel sticker or
something that visibly tells TxDOT and the media your opinion; and, be sure to
put your comments on the official record.
These 'environmental' hearings are not limited to endangered
species, hazardous materials, pollution and similar issues you might commonly
consider environmental. This study also includes consideration of the social
and economic impact the project will have on you and your community. Your
comments can support the "No Build" option or use of the existing highway
corridors. Additionally, the law requires consideration widespread opposition
to the project.
CorridorWatch is preparing a simple guide to help citizens
attending the hearings to provide solid testimony on the DEIS. This guide will
help insure that their concerns and opinions get on the record in a way that
will be difficult for TxDOT to disregard.
